Car Parks Building Services
As part of its car-parking expansion programme, London Gatwick Airports development arm, has just commissioned its new 1300 space car-park adjacent to the North Terminal.
Due to its geographical location on the airport site, and its restricted access, a fast clean and uncluttered building solution was required. This has been achieved with a fully integrated pre-cast concrete solution, manufactured off site to a strict manufacturing schedule to achieve just in time deliveries.
Parking is provided on seven levels, six suspended plus a ground slab which covers a rainwater attenuation tank and a flood water reservoir. The six upper levels are formed using 15.6m clear spanning pre-finished flooring units, supported off a composite beam and column arrangement, with the perimeter units having an integral vehicle impact barrier.
There are three escape staircases and a customer interface area, serviced by three lifts and a central feature staircase. Vehicle movement throughout the car-park is via two semi-circular external ramps, one up, one down, segregating drivers on their respective journeys.
The whole scheme has been worked up in conjunction with Manchester based Architects Chapman Taylor, with Engineering Services being provided by the Hill Cannon Partnership.
