Civil Weddings & Ceremonies

We are Licenced for Civil Weddings, Partnerships and Renewal Ceremonies at South Causey Inn both in our Function Rooms and in the South Causey Gardens, where a marquee can be erected for you if you wish. Couples seeking to be married at South Causey Inn are required to give Notice of Marriage to the Superintendent Registrar at:
Stanley Register Office, 7 Thorneyholme Terrace, Stanley, County Durham.Telephone 01207 235849
Please note that couples are also required to give notice to the Superintendent Registrar for the Registration District in which they live. The marriage couple will be responsible for booking and paying the fees for the attendance of these registration staff.
The Civil Ceremony must be held between the hours of 10.00 and 15.00.
Any readings, music or performance that forms part of the Civil Marriage Ceremony celebrated at South Causey Inn must be non-religious in content. Please ask the Superintendent Registrar for further details.
No food or drink (including alcohol ) may be served or consumed in the room where the wedding takes place for one hour prior to the ceremony, or during the ceremony itself.
The areas approved for the celebration of Civil Marriages are The Shafto Suite, The Beamish Suite and The Snug.
The general public cannot be excluded from any Civil Marriage Ceremony.
