Description

Ground Anchors and Rock Anchors made from stainless steel are particularly practical due to their corrosion resistance and ductility. Anchor types available include Grip-Bar, Threaded Rebar and Hollow Injection.

Stainless UK specialises in ground anchors and rock anchors made from grades 304 and 316 stainless steel. Grade 304 is suitable for most non-marine applications. Grade 316 is recommended for use in marine, highways and other corrosive environments.

Stainless steel is a material particularly suitable for anchoring applications. Its corrosion resistant properties are critical in applications where ground anchors are installed to provide permanent or long term support. Permanent is considered to mean in excess of 100 years. The inherent corrosion resistance of stainless steel can provide these life times without the need for expensive surface protection treatments and special conditions for handling and installation. Stainless steel has a high ductility compared to other more brittle materials. This means stainless steel has the ability to sustain increasing loads with increasing strain. Stainless steel can also be used at extreme low temperatures whilst retaining its strength and ductility. The initial costs of using stainless steel are high but they can be cheap when compared to the costs that can be incurred due to premature failure or need for repair or replacement due to corrosion.

Grip-Bar is a solid stainless steel, threaded bar designed for installation in pre-drilled holes. It has a user friendly, coarse, rugged, thread profile. Made from high tensile strength material (UTS 750 N/mm2) it gives very high bond strengths and pull out forces. Grip-Bar is available in thread sizes from 16mm to 48mm in lengths up to 6m

Threaded rebar is used in applications where relatively low loads are expected. Rebar is supplied to BS 6744: 2001 with a proof strength of 500N/mm2. Only available with metric threads, turning down and threading reduces the strength of the bar. Rebar ribs provide a suitable surface for grouting but due to the shallow depth of rib, pull-out forces are lower than those that can be achieved with Grip-Bar or other fully threaded anchoring systems.
