But take a look under the bonnet and a rather more 'high-performance' picture emerges. They're made from an astonishingly functional fabric. It's a technical 100 polyamide canvas which offers the sort of performance you'd normally expect from technical trekking trousers.
The On Routes look and feel like top-quality cotton canvas trousers. But that's where the similarity ends. They're much quicker drying, far more durable and much easier to wash. In the field, you'll find they're highly windproof and offer total protection from the harmful effects of UV radiation.
As you'd expect, the storage options are extensive. They include twin hand pockets, two security pockets and rear patch pockets. An accessory D-ring keeps your car keys or penknife safe and secure - but close at hand. In short, if it's small and you don't want to lose it, you'll find somewhere to keep it in your On Routes.
